It all started from a friend, a colleague, a peer . . .
From being bored with the same routine, from plateauing time and time again . . .
I wanted to get healthy, I wanted people around me who cared . . .

They called it constantly varied, functional movements, executed at high intensity . . .

It's about taking the first step -

It's called CrossFit and I friggin' love it!

Persistency

So those goals that I have written about before are now on a paper / your computer right?  You shared them with a friend, a loved one, a Coach, a fellow athlete/peer, so that you can start creating some accountability for yourself right?  What did you do yesterday to get yourself further to that goal?  Oh wait, it was the 28th of November, 3 days after Thanksgiving and you were still eating leftovers, no worries, let's get back on track. . . it's Monday

Persistency - continuing to exist despite interference or treatment

No, I am not talking about the nagging cough you may have started to develop or when a girl is trying to get a guy like the 2009 hit, He's Just Not That Into You.  I am bringing it back to movies like Rudy and Hoosiers.  Now we've talked about Rudy in the past, clearly Rudy was persistent.  But what about Hoosiers?

Hoosiers (1986) is based on the true story of the tiny, country school of Milan (Hickory is the city in the movie) defeating the big city school of Muncie Central (South Bend Central), a very rare feat given the advantages a bigger school would have.  Gene Hackman plays Coach Norman Dale, who fights many obstacles including the second-guessing fathers, a feisty teacher who trys to get the best basketball player the town has from going out for the team, and a whole bunch of undisciplined athlete's, with the goal of taking home the Indiana State Basketball Championship Title.

I won't spoil this movie for you, but if there is anything inspiring in this world, Hoosiers is a definite.  So take a risk, continue practicing, when the time comes for your big shot, whether it be a workout, all workouts, or reaching your goals, close your eyes, hold on to that basketball, and granny shot from the foul line to win the game.

Nay-sayers mean nothing, don't listen, it ain't worth it for you or I.  You can achieve the written goal, it's like looking at the Whiteboard, seeing that WOD, knowing it may take a minute or a millenia, but going at it all the same.  No quit, no "I can't", and definitely no "I won't".

Let's get back on track and close out our year in style.  Be persistent with your goals, whether they be unbroken double-unders, 100 unbroken pistols, or picking up/pushing up some weight.  It's time for a nudge, and this time I hold you accountable, you wrote down your goals.  Let me see what you got.

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race”

  2. I just wanted to share one of my favorite quotes related to persistence:

“Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.”
