It all started from a friend, a colleague, a peer . . .
From being bored with the same routine, from plateauing time and time again . . .
I wanted to get healthy, I wanted people around me who cared . . .

They called it constantly varied, functional movements, executed at high intensity . . .

It's about taking the first step -

It's called CrossFit and I friggin' love it!

Helping Others

As you may now understand, this "cult" called CrossFit does a little more than just workout

In a newly expanded addition, CrossFit Ironwill has begun to establish a name for itself in their community.  A recent Tornado has affected hundreds of lives in the area and debilitated the region for months to come.  To this day, people still have trees down in their yards, no power, no running water, no shelter they can call their own.

They look around for help and in these serious emergencies, the Red Cross will come along or if bad enough, the National Guard, well guess what?  The National Guard was there the next day.  Springfield was hit and then Monson, MA.

"The chaos was disorienting, peoples houses literally got flipped upside down, what lasted as long as some CrossFit workouts destroyed a town.  There was no leniency by this Tornado."

There wasn't preparation for this Tornado, not to the extent of the damage at which you can see here.

But another helpful storm of souls was about to be discovered and it would scour the area looking for people in need of assistance.

CrossFit Ironwill was in Springfield that week and weekend.  Chainsaws and axes in hand, they went through neighborhoods cleaning up yards for free.

I don't have to paint you a picture of what they were doing, the photos speak for themselves.

Let me give you a blurb from CrossFit Ironwill:

"You guys were a force when we came together like that!  It was awesome to watch you all clear yard after yard this weekend.  We helped a lot of people with taking trees off of houses, handing out food and water, and clearing front lawns allowing access to their homes.  Then we started clearing back yards.  Amazing work but the bad news continued when the residents heard their insurance wouldn’t pay for tree removal unless it was on their house.  We heard from one couple they were quoted at $8,000 to clear their back yard.  I can’t imgaine.

I know it’ll take us a few days to recover from long days of work but just think – it’ll take a few years for the tornado victims to recover.  We have another neighbor that needs our help and we told them we’ll do what we can next Saturday.  It would be great to get 5 chainsaws & operators and about 15 others to carry wood to the front.  We can finish this back yard in a short day.  Same plan as this past weekend…  if you can make it lets meet at the gym at 8am on Saturday.

CrossFit Swarm is hosting a Fight Gone Bad fundraiser for the tornado victims.  Let me know if you would like to donate and/or participate in the workout."

Above all else, we find that by helping ourselves, we have the ability to help others ten fold, here is just another reason why taking care of yourself can easily lead to helping those in need.

Nice job CrossFit Ironwill!
