It all started from a friend, a colleague, a peer . . .
From being bored with the same routine, from plateauing time and time again . . .
I wanted to get healthy, I wanted people around me who cared . . .

They called it constantly varied, functional movements, executed at high intensity . . .

It's about taking the first step -

It's called CrossFit and I friggin' love it!

Snatch vs Clean & Jerk

So the question of the night was the Snatch vs. the Clean & Jerk, there is no better way than to show some videos which I think do a phenomenal job of displaying both technique, power, and what a huge difference they really are. . .

The Snatch:

And you get to see it in slow motion....nuff said

The Clean and Jerk, excellent technique as Kendrick moves under the bar on the jerk.

With the clean, the athletes are pulling themselves under the bar.  They are not receiving the bar in with a open hip and, for lack of a better term, riding the front squat down to the bottom of the front squat position.  Once the clean is complete, the athlete is jerking the weight, the common choice for olympic lifters seems to be the split jerk, but I want us to pay close attention to the full extension of the arms as they drop under the bar fast enough to receive it fully locked out and then stand up.

Just some thoughts as we start doing more Olympic Weightlifting, oh what fun will be had by all!!

Just to reiterate last night's lesson:

3 position snatch:
The high hang - from the hip crease
The hang - from mid thigh
The floor - yes, it's really from the floor.

Keep them in mind, everyone did really, really well!

See ya in the evenings . . .
